Where’s the take out menu: This one is self explanatory. Maybe the recipe was bad, maybe the recipe was good but I messed up some step somewhere, but the memory of the bad meal is engrained into all that tried it and the recipe will NOT have a second chance.

Silence: Some conversation during the meal may occur, but none about the new dish. The food is eaten but not all of it, almost half is left on the plate. Not wanting to hurt any feelings, those who partake do so in silence – it’s a dud, it will NOT have a second chance.

Grunt: When the meal is finished and the plate mostly cleaned off, asked how they liked it and received a grunt. This has potential. Will try the recipe again, making a few changes and see where on the scale it lands the second time before passing final judgement.

Next time try more . . .: This is the goal, and most recipes fall into this category. The meal was eaten, the plate cleaned and it got them talking. Usually, it’s “try more garlic” or “try more balamic” but it most certainly gets another try and usually stays in the repertoire.

Burp: Don’t confuse this with Silence. There is not much talking but it’s usually becase of good eating. The plate gets clean off and a request of a repeat soon is made.

Is there more: Only a few select recipes ever acheive this. Variations include: Is there more, may I have more, where are the leftovers. Careful though, to keep the them coming, don’t over do it, save this one for special occasions!
